Why did HBO cut Issa Rae and The City Girls after only 2 Seasons?

The Black shows will always get cut first by mayonnaise media.

It’s over for Rap Sh!t.

Even though Rap Sh!t was executive produced by known award winning, Issa Rae and The City Girls, it has been canceled after two seasons. The streaming network and HBO affiliate, Max, canned the show using the excuse of the striking actor’s guild and MAXimizing it’s viewer reach. It didn’t matter that both Issa Rae and City Girls have been part of many successful projects, nor that they have a base of millions they can promote to. Max wanted to cut the dark meat from their programming plate so the potentially powerful pairing of decorated director and popular rap group was severed. Was it deserved?

Max refused to comment, but through a spokesperson expressed how the streamer is “happy” to have hosted Rap Sh!t for only two seasons. The so called “spokesperson” for Max never explained why the network cut it’s most promising and star studded show. Instead this person that spoke for Max expressed how giddy Issa Rae and The City Girls made the much less melanated staff of Max feel.

“We are extremely grateful to Issa Rae for creating Rap Sh!t, a one-of-a-kind comedy with compelling social commentary that reached viewers in a way only Issa’s talents can accomplish,” said the spokesperson. “A huge thank-you to Issa, showrunner Syreeta Singleton and the teams at Hoorae and 3 Arts Entertainment for introducing us to Shawna and Mia, a duo whose journey fans have invested in and who they have continued to root for through everything. We’ll never get Seduce and Scheme out of our heads, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The series starred Aida Osman and KaMillion as Shawna and Mia, two friends from Miami who decide to get famous by forming a rap duo. This season found the women facing a crossroads about what they were willing to do to gain the fame they desired.

The series also starred Jonica Booth, RJ Cyler and Daniel Augustin.
